AIS wins Human Justice Award

Thursday was Human Rights Day around the world, a day to focus on core human values, be grateful for the rights people can enjoy, and acknowledge that some are not so lucky. To celebrate, the NT Human Rights Awards were held at Parliament House, recognising the achievements of Territorians who have worked to promote and raise awareness of fundamental human rights.

The AIS was awarded the Human Justice Award in recognition for their hard work with the Police Cautions. The standardised Audio Police Cautions are recordings of the police caution in 18 different Aboriginal languages.

AIS worked in partnership with Northern Territory Police and the Northern Territory Department of Attorney-General to ensure police cautions include two versions – an ‘In Custody’ version and a ‘Not in Custody’ version. Both versions can be used by law enforcement at any time and meet all legal requirements.

Congratulations to the Aboriginal Interpreter Service team, on a very well-deserved award.
