Hafez proud to help

Arabic interpreter Hafez Ajjur has been recognised for his work in assisting NT Police.

Hafez has been working with the Interpreting and Translating Service NT since October 2016.

He was recently called upon to assist police in a highly stressful negotiation process.

“I can't describe what I felt at that time but the only thing that keeps crossing my mind about it, is that I was ready for anything,” Hafez said.

In a letter of recognition, the Assistant Commissioner of Crime and Darwin Metropolitan, Travis Wurst acknowledged Hafez’ interpreting skills ensured effective negotiations were carried out in a short period of time.

“Hafez demonstrated a commitment to serving the community of the Northern Territory,” he said.

Hafez said receiving the letter was “awesome”.

“The only comment I have for it, is that my decision of leaving everything behind and migrating to Australia to be my family’s home is something I’m not going to regret ever,” he said.
