Central Australia renal accommodation project
On 22 June 2015, the Commonwealth and Northern Territory Government entered into a $10 million agreement for the delivery of family-centred renal accommodation in Alice Springs and Tennant Creek, along with infrastructure for dialysis facilities and staff accommodation in Kaltukatjara, Papunya and Mount Liebig.
Central Australian Affordable Housing Company (CAAHC) was awarded the tender to refurbish and manage a total of ten homes, eight in Alice Springs and two in Tenant Creek. CAAHC commenced the construction and upgrade work on the houses in August 2016, with all homes now completed and families moving in during July and August 2017.
The construction of new renal clinics and three-bedroom renal nurse accommodation in Kaltukatjara and Papunya commenced in March 2017, and is expected to be completed by the third quarter of 2017. The dialysis clinic upgrade work at Mount Liebig also commenced in early 2017 and is now complete, with services to commence soon.
