NT homelessness strategy consultation
The Department of Housing and Community Development (DHCD) is leading the development of an interagency NT Homelessness Strategy and Five Year Action Plan 2018-2022. The development of the Homelessness Strategy builds on work commenced in 2015 by KPMG and further developed by PricewaterhouseCoopers Indigenous Consulting in late 2016, and will align with the negotiation of the new National Housing and Homelessness Agreement. Based on work to date and experience across other jurisdictions, it is expected that the Strategy will focus on:
- Improving pathways out of homelessness
- Reforming the homelessness service system
- Strengthening support to sustain tenancies
- Strengthening government agencies response to homelessness
- Increasing access to stable housing through leveraging the private rental market.
The Strategy will aim to improve pathways out of homelessness and strengthen assistance to people at risk of homelessness. The Strategy will focus on assessing and improving our response to homelessness across DHCD, the NGO homelessness and support sector and agencies across the Northern Territory Government’s Children and Families Cluster. As part of the Strategy development, a Discussion Paper – Pathways out of homelessness is available for comment. Feedback can be provided to email@example.com by 20 July. DHCD will also be undertaking consultation workshops with key homelessness service providers in Darwin, Katherine, Tennant Creek, Nhulunbuy and Alice Springs in July 2017.
