$5 million stimulus for urban public housing repairs
The Northern Territory Government is providing a further $5million for the 2017-18 financial year into the construction industry for repairs and upgrades to urban public housing.
If you are a tradie or small business you can now register your interest to undertake work. (see eligibility and selection information below).
This program is an addition to the department’s existing repair and maintenance and minor new works programs delivered through panel contract arrangements. We are looking for contractors who currently do not work on public housing properties to include into our request for quote process.
If you are an existing panel contractor or subcontractor this program will not impact on your current work.
Types of work
The works will include upgrades to vacant and occupied public housing properties in Darwin, Palmerston, Nhulunbuy, Katherine, Tennant Creek and Alice Springs.
Works may include:
- roof repairs
- fence repairs
- gutter repairs
- disability modifications and occupation therapist aids
- non urgent minor plumbing, electrical and carpentry repairs
- concrete driveways and minor complex car park repairs
- security door repairs
- window replacement for security
- security lighting
- upgrade of garden areas in complexes for security
The works will be delivered through individual contracts. All works undertaken are to be compliant with all relevant Australian Standards, Work Health and Safety Legislation and in line with the National Construction Code. Works are to be delivered according to the department’s standard technical requirements and in line with the Standard Specifications for small building works 2017 which can be downloaded from dipl.nt.gov.au/infrastructure/technical-standards-guidelines-and-specifications/specification-services/technical-specifications/buildings.
Eligibility and selection process
To successfully register for this program, you will need to meet the following criteria:
- be a registered business within the Northern Territory
- have a workforce of 19 employees or less
- have an annual turnover between $10,000 and $5 million
- not be a current Northern Territory Government employee.
Once you have registered, the department may invite you to quote for works at any time during the program period. Requests for quote will be based on what works are required, your location and trade qualifications. You will be asked to provide your price for the works and evidence of your capacity and capability to perform the works. The department will assess your quote and you will be notified of the outcome. A successful quote will result in a contract with the department.
The quotation process will be in line with Northern Territory Government Procurement Directions.
Registration does not guarantee that you will be asked to quote for work.
If you are contracted to undertake work, you will be required to:
- agree to the department’s Conditions of Contract
- undertake a departmental induction
- provide proof of trade qualification
- provide proof of Public Liability Insurance up to $10,000,000
Who can register?
Northern Territory small trade businesses with a workforce of 19 employees or less, are encouraged to register.
The register opened on 1 February 2017 and will remain open until project completion on 30 June 2018 or until the program funding has been exhausted whichever is the earlier date. You can register at any time during this period.
